Cardamom, also known as cardamom or cardamum, is a spice obtained from the seeds of plants of the genera Elettaria and Amomum, which belong to the Zingiberaceae family. It is the third most expensive spice in the world, surpassed only by vanilla and saffron. Cardamom has a unique and strong flavor and an intensely aromatic, resinous odor. It is commonly used as a food and beverage flavoring, as well as in medicine. Cardamom is a staple ingredient in Indian cuisine and is also used in baking, as a garnish for basmati rice, and traditionally in coffee and tea.
